Chapter 19
The law regarding self defence in the UK.
If you think the Police will protect you so that you do not need self defence, you are sadly mistaken in this belief. For a start they will probably not get there in time. Secondly they will more than likely arrest you simply for being inadvertently involved.
The old saying goes: ‘better to be tried by twelve than carried by six’. In other words better to put your case to a Jury regarding what you did to an opponent, rather than be carried to your grave by six of your friends.
The other saying is: ‘the law is an ass’. There are no rules in War and self defense is a form of small War. When you come up against the rules ‘The Law’, you may not get Justice - just be happy if you do get it.
This is how the Police (Law) interpret self defense:
Defense of Self, Others or Property
There are circumstances where the use of force against person or property will be permissible. This aspect of criminal law has attracted a great deal of interest as a result of several widely-reported court cases recently. As a result, there have been calls for a change in the legislation in order to provide greater perceived protection for those who cause injury in defending their lives or property.
Whatever changes the future may bring, it is almost certain that the Human Rights Act 1998 will impose even stricter conditions on a person who might lawfully injure, or kill, a person in the defense of another.
A person executing a warrant is specifically empowered to use force if necessary.
Sometimes the use of force is justified by the circumstances:
By preventing crime.
By defending yourself or another.
By protecting property.
